MapaPhoto is a geography and visual reasoning game that challenges players to identify real-world locations from photographs. The goal is simple: study a photo, drop pins on the map, and see how close you can get to where it was taken.
Unlike many geo games, MapaPhoto does not limit you to a single guess per photo. You can move or drop the pin multiple times, using distance feedback to refine your guesses until you find the correct location or the timer runs out.
Why MapaPhoto exists
MapaPhoto was created to make geography more intuitive and engaging. While many people recognise famous landmarks, fewer can confidently place less obvious locations on a map.
The game encourages players to notice subtle visual clues — such as street signs, vegetation, terrain, or architectural styles — and use them to narrow down a location.
Real photos, real places
Every photo used in MapaPhoto is a real photograph taken at a known location. There are no generated images and no fictional places.
Each round represents a real place on Earth, helping players build genuine geographic knowledge through play.
How the game works
Players are shown photos one at a time and can place multiple guess pins on the world map. Distance feedback updates instantly after each guess.
A photo is solved when you place a pin within 50km of the where the photo was taken. Once solved, that photo locks (no more pins) and you move on to teh next photo or the game ends. The core skill is solving in fewer pins, not perfect precision.
